Want to get the family involved in house cleaning, but know they'll bolt the minute you say the word? Impact Thrift Stores posted a great plan for getting everyone—even the kids—on board with some cleaning.
Anytime you want to get kids involved, there's going to have to be a fun factor, and by turning the cleaning into an event with games and prizes is definitely a way to do it.
Here are a few favorite ideas from their recommendations:
Create a Team. If you let each child create a team for themselves with a name and a color, they'll be more motivated to compete. Help them come up with a name that suits their personality and a short cheer they can use to chant for their “team.”
Give Each Team a Goal. The important thing here is to pick a goal that is attainable, keeping in mind the age and capabilities of each child. This way, they get to experience the victory, which will motivate them the next time you need to clean!
Award a Prize. While this can be an actual prize, it doesn't have to be! It could be that you will cook their favorite dinner for them one night next week, that they get to pick the TV show the whole family watches together, or that they get one extra book at bedtime. Pick something they'll really enjoy to keep them moving!
Play a Game. Create a game that encourages everyone to get involved. Some of the ones they suggested included:
When you make cleaning fun for your kids, not only are they more likely to get involved, but you will also probably have fun!
